Of all the names in the world for a newborn monkey, perhaps Charlotte wasn't the best choice.
Just days after the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her second child, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana (a.k.a. Princess Charlotte of Cambridge), the Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden in southern Japan bestowed the name on a baby macaque.
The city-run zoo has a tradition of announcing the name of the firstborn monkey of the year, and the name Charlotte came out top of a public ballot, receiving 59 of 853 votes. However, following a barrage of angry calls and emails, it has said it's considering renaming the monkey. Read more...
