Freelance journalist and Marine Corps veteran Austin Tice went missing in Syria on Aug. 13, 2012. More than 1,000 days later, he remains missing, the only known American to still be held captive in the country.
The White House acknowledged the somber milestone on Tuesday, and urged those holding Tice captive to release him in the latest appeal.
"We strongly urge Austin’s captors to release him so that he can be safely reunited with his family," said National Security Council spokesperson Bernadette Meehan in a statement. "We call on all those who may have information about Austin’s whereabouts — governments and individuals — to work cooperatively with us to help bring him home." Read more...
