President Obama on shooting of WDBJ7 journalists: 'It breaks my heart'

President Obama made his first public comments on the tragic shooting deaths of two journalists during a live TV broadcast outside of Roanoke, Virginia, Wednesday
"It breaks my heart every time you read about or hear about these kind of incidents," he said during a planned television interview at the White House.

Baxter the robot can beat you at Connect Four

Sometimes a robot would just like to play a nice, quiet game of Connect Four, rather than languishing on a busy factory floor.
On Sunday at Robotronica, a robotics event in Brisbane, Baxter the robot went head to head with kids of all ages, wielding the little yellow and red disks with its mechanical hand. The android even frowned when it lost, which was often.
Created by the Boston company Rethink Robotics, Baxter is built to be easily programmable and to safely work alongside humans. It's also equipped with sensors that let it perceive the world around it, and spring joints so it can move its limbs flexibly. Due to all these characteristics, the Baxter at Robotronica is normally used for research and teaching at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Read more...

Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume prompts outcry

Yes, it is that time of the year again. It may be August, but topical and tasteless Halloween costumes are already popping up — ready to destroy what should be a beautiful night of guilt-free candy consumption.
Case in point: There is now a Caitlyn Jenner costume, based on her iconic Vanity Fair cover, one that transgender supporters say makes a mockery out of her choice to live as her true self
It is, of course, nothing new to mine current events for an edgy Halloween costume. You might recall last year's Sexy Ebola Nurse while the U.S. faced what it feared was an epidemic. And some make the argument that paying tribute to an inspiring public figure by dressing up as them for Halloween is actually an honor Read more...

Subway just removed a 'Jared's Pants Dance' game for kids from its website

Until Wednesday, the kids' subsidiary of Subway's website hosted a game called "Jared's Pants Dance" that let users catch sandwiches and snacks. The "net" was an oversized pair of pants belonging to Jared Fogle, the longtime Subway pitchman.
Federal prosecutors released documents on Wednesday accusing Fogle of engaging in sex acts with minors and receiving child pornography. The sandwich chain officially cut ties with him on Tuesday night ahead of the expected guilty plea.
That makes him — well, let's just say, not the ideal candidate for a kids' game involving pants. Read more...

Rain may be a nuisance to adults, but for a toddler eager to experience everything and anything, it's quite a thrilling experience.
Although this little Harper has seen rain from the comfort of indoors, she'd never actually experienced playing in it. So when a summer rain shower rolled in, little Harper's dad took her right into the action, and judging by her reaction, she enjoyed every moment
