The ESL details its anti-drug policy, addresses recreational marijuana use

Drugs have no place in esports — performance-enhancing or otherwise.

That's the message the Electronic Sports League (ESL) is sending with its newly expanded anti-drug policy, which ESL Head of Communications Anna Rozwandowicz shared a portion of via the Counter Strike: Global Offensive subreddit. The text lays out some of the specific enforcement techniques for keeping Adderall, marijuana and other banned substances out of ESL competitions.

This issue escalated to "hot button" status in recent months after a player from the North American CS:GO team, Cloud9 Gaming, admitted to using Adderall during a tournament in March. Adderall is a stimulant prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy, but is also sometimes used to boost a person's focus — or "enhance performance" in the parlance of pro sports no-nos.
