A new video flythrough of an image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope reveals stunning details in a star-forming region of the universe that is rich with thousands of newborn stars
The video puts viewers into the middle of the image, released to mark the Hubble’s 25th anniversary this week. Pillars of gas and dust in the star-forming Gum 29 region whiz past, while the star cluster Westerlund 2 comes into clear focus.
Hubble launched to space on April 24, 1990, aboard the space shuttle Discovery. Since then, NASA astronauts have launched to the Hubble multiple times to repair the important scientific instrument. Experts expect the Hubble to continue functioning through 2020. Read more...
