Sheryl Sandberg, David Ebersman Join SurveyMonkey Board

The board of directors at SurveyMonkey just got a Facebook infusion, as chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg and former chief financial officer David Ebersman were added.

Sandberg’s late husband, Dave Goldberg, had been CEO at SurveyMonkey until his sudden passing in early May.

Sandberg said in a Facebook post describing her decision to join the board:

My beloved husband Dave Goldberg loved SurveyMonkey and the incredible people who work there. He was so proud of their success–and the way they quietly changed an entire industry and helped so many people make better decisions.

Yesterday David Ebersman and I joined the board of SurveyMonkey–becoming part of a team that I have also come to love. I’m excited to be part of SurveyMonkey’s future, and to work with the new CEO, Bill Veghte. Bill has held leadership positions at some of tech’s biggest companies and I’m looking forward to working with him. I also want to thank Zander Lurie, a great business leader who stepped up as temporary executive chairman these past few months and helped the whole SurveyMonkey team through an incredibly difficult time. Zander is now going to serve as chairman of the board–we are lucky to have him.

SurveyMonkey is a special company with a special mission and an incredible team. As we continue to scale and grow the business, I know the whole team will continue to #makedaveproud.

Ebersman left Facebook in June 2014 to return to the healthcare sector, and he is currently CEO of Lyra Health.

Lurie said in a release announcing the board appointments:

We are thrilled to have Sheryl and David join our board. They are talented business leaders with deep operational and financial expertise who will provide valuable perspective to our management team. With their strategic input, SurveyMonkey will be even better-positioned to scale our profitable business.

Sandberg added:

Ever since Dave joined SurveyMonkey six years ago, I watched him and his team execute on their mission to help people make better decisions. I’m looking forward to working with the board and this amazing team and help to realize Dave’s vision of building a lasting company that will impact the way we all do business for years to come.

And Ebersman said:

I have always admired SurveyMonkey for its groundbreaking products and innovative roots as one of the world’s first software-as-a-service platforms. I look forward to helping the board and management team achieve our next stage of growth.
